The City of Paducah and the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources are partners in the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FINs) program. The FINs program began in 2006 with the lake at Bob Noble Park added to the program in 2010. The program currently includes 44 lakes statewide with Lake Montgomery at Noble Park receiving four yearly stockings of channel catfish and three annual stockings of rainbow trout.
On Tuesday, March 10, the Department of Fish & Wildlife will deliver 1100 catfish to Lake Montgomery with 1500 rainbow trout to be delivered on Wednesday, March 18. The lake received 1500 trout in February.
Parks & Recreation Department Director Mark Thompson says, “There should be some mighty fine fishing going on at Lake Montgomery in Noble Park with the addition of 1100 catfish and 1500 trout provided to us through the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s FINS program.”
The goal of the program is to provide high quality fishing opportunities near cities of all sizes throughout Kentucky. Since trout prefer cold water, Fish & Wildlife stocks them during the cooler months of February, March, and October. The department stocks catfish during the warmer months of March, April, May, and June.
Anglers 16 years old and older need a State fishing license, unless license exempt. There is a Resident Senior License for folks 65 and older. For FINs lakes including Lake Montgomery, the daily limit is five rainbow trout and four catfish.
